Mind Insights is a scientific institute that brings together and develops the latest methods in cognitive neuroscience. In this way, the limits of consciousness and the inherent distortions of the classical survey methods (group discussions, online surveys, observation, etc.) are avoided and the more “automatic”, “unconscious” and real reactions of the participants to the research objects are captured.
What reactions does a personalized glass bottle trigger?
“A personalized glass bottle is appealing and arouses emotions.” We often hear this sentence from our customers who have decided to personalise their wine, beer, spirits or water bottles with screen printing.
But what emotions are actually aroused? We have taken up this topic.
For the first time, a scientific study on screen printing on glass bottles was conducted by the Institute for Neuroscience, Mind Insights*. The study intends to help our customers understand the challenges of the market better. This is the first time that a study has been carried out in which the reactions of consumers to screen-printed glass bottles have been measured. The study was coordinated by Gordy Pleyers, a member of Mind Insights and a professor at Louvain University. Gordy Pleyers is a scientific expert on analysing consumers’ perceptions and influences on consumers.
The study was carried out from June 19th to July 3rd, 2019 with a representative sample of 120 participants aged between 25 and 60, who are not professionally active in the wine sector.
The aim of this study was to analyze the perceptions of a wine bottle with a screen print compared to an identical glass bottle without a screen print (with label). The researchers used state-of-the-art scientific methods to reliably measure and analyze perceptions. Traditional methods, such as interviews or online surveys, were not used because they could not provide information on “unconscious” reactions.
Using Mind Insights’ methods, the researchers were able to identify and analyze the spontaneous reactions of consumers to a screen-printed glass bottle. The reactions were analyzed against two basic criteria: The first was the “emotional” dimension created by the products. On the other hand, the “cognitive” dimension was measured, which measures the spontaneous thoughts activated by a product.

The results
A Winebottle with screen print from Tscharner winery was analyzed. For the glass bottle an alternative with a label was constructed. The results show that compared to an alternative with a label, the use of screen printing can create a particularly interesting impression about the perception of the authenticity of the product. From a marketing point of view, the authenticity of a product is of utmost importance as it conveys “honesty” to the consumer and the product will meet your expectations.
The results also show that the use of screen printing can give the product a very modern look, giving the consumer the feeling that it is an exceptional product and a modern company that stands out from the crowd.
The Mind Insights Institute concludes that screen printing for glass packaging for the wine sector can be of great interest to personalize glass packaging in order to position the company on the market as “Authentic” and “Modern”.
Customers want authenticity
Trust and honesty are the basic needs of every human being. A customer also wants to feel and see these basic needs in a company. Today’s customers don’t just go to a store to buy something, they go there because they want to experience something. You have to imagine it this way: if we are in a noisy hall, then we are looking for silence. In a world in which every day we are inundated with offers and products, we look for the real, authentic, honest!
Enhance your glass packaging or drinking glasses with a glass print
A printed glass packaging or a personally printed drinking glass is always an eye-catcher. Whether in a point of sale or at an event, people reach for these products and inspect them carefully. Who doesn’t know this situation? They see eye-catching packaging, stop, look and then immediately take them into their hands. But why do we do this?
The purchasing behavior of consumers shows that packaging that appeals to the sense of sight and touch is bought much more. Packaging must appeal to the customer. If he can “feel” it, the customer is even willing to pay more for it. The most important thing about all this? The customer will always remember your product and build a strong bond with it.
And since the sense of hearing must not be ignored with glass packaging and Univerre is a specialist in glass packaging, we give you many different possibilities to perfectly present your products with special printing methods:
